DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
GOAL’s Development Education Programme
is designed to increase young people’s awareness and understanding
of the plight of the poorest of the poor, and to make them aware
of a whole range of issues that daily affect people living in the
Developing World.
GOAL’s Development Education officers
visit over 300 schools annually in Ireland and Northern Ireland,
to share information and first hand experiences of GOAL’s
work overseas. These include primary and post-primary schools, third-level
institutions, and youth and after-school groups.
Upon request, GOAL will provide appropriate
information to students taking part in the Civil, Social and Political
Education programme (CSPE); Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) and
Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP). Fact sheets, DVDs
and CSPE booklets are now available for primary and secondary schools.
Many schools regularly hold fundraising events
for GOAL, including sponsored walks, cake sales, ‘no homework’
days and sports days. Hundreds of schools take part in GOAL Jersey
Day every year.
