Making a will is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact after your depart this world. Leaving a gift to GOAL is one way to ensure that some of the lives of the world’s most vulnerable improve because of your generosity.
Types of legacies:
There are four ways in which you can make a bequest to GOAL’s programmes:
- As a gift of a specific amount of money – known as a pecuniary.
- As a gift of a specific item – known as a legacy.
- As a gift of the rest of your assets that you have not already given away – known as a residuary bequest.
- If you have already made a will and you wish to give a gift to GOAL, you will need to prepare a new will, or ask your solicitor to add a codicil (addition) in a similar way to the original will, which should be kept in the same place as the original will.
How to make a will:
To help with the process, please refer to the following:
- Talk to your solicitor (preferably use one recommended to you by a friend).
- List your assets and their approximate value.
- List your liabilities (including mortgage(s), loans, credit cards).
- Nominate executors – someone who you would like to look after your affairs.
- Consider how you would like your assets divided.
- Your solicitor can help you prepare your will from this point on, covering tax implications of giving to various family and friends.
- Consider including a gift to GOAL.
